Academician Prof. Em. Dr. Ljubiša Adamović

Dear Members, Friends, Postgraduates, and PhD Candidates of the ECPD UPEACE, 

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Academician Prof. Em. Dr. Ljubiša Adamović, one of the main pillars of this international educational and research organization within the UN academic system, a prominent professor since its founding.

In his prosperous career, Academician Adamović held different high-ranking positions, including, inter alia, that of the Dean and President of the Scientific and Education Board of the ECPD University for Peace established by the UN, Member of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts, Member of the Yugoslav Economic Academy, Secretary General of the Union of University Teachers’ Associations of Yugoslavia, President of the Commission for International Cooperation of the University of Serbia, Member of the Council of the International Center for Social Sciences of the University of Ljubljana, Member of the Commission for International Cooperation of the University of Ljubljana, President of the Council of the Center for Cooperation with Developing Countries (Ljubljana), and many other prestigious national and international functions. 

In addition, he served as a member of the Executive Committee of the Mediterranean Social Science Union, a member of the Executive Committee of the Interuniversity Center (Dubrovnik), a member of the board of the Institute for International Law and Economic Development (Washington, USA), and a consultant to the UN Conference on International Trade Issues, among other roles. He engaged in the efforts of numerous international bodies and organizations, including the UN, UNCTAD, UNESCO, EEC, CEEC, and the G77. He was a member of ASPEN Institute, Rome (since 1985), Executive Committee of the Serbian Scientific Society (since 1977), American Economic Association (since 1959), Mediterranean Council for Social Research (since 1961), and others. 

Academician Adamović was Full Professor at the Florida State University, Tallahassee, USA (1962-1987), Colgate University, USA (1981), Skidmore College, USA (1982), Lehigh University, Pennsylvania, USA (1962, 1973 and 1983), John Hopkins University, USA and University in Bologna, Italy (1973/74), Full Professor and Head of the Department for International Economics at the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade (since 1967), Faculty of Economics in Podgorica, Faculty of Economics in Sarajevo, and many others. 

A substantial corpus of his work has been published, including scientific and professional works, books, monographs, studies and handbooks, collected works, scientific papers and statements (presented at many Yugoslav and international conferences), articles and other texts in multiple languages. His widely known publications are: “Yugoslavia and COM ECON” (1985); „Economy of the Non-Aligned countries” (1985); “World Economic Crisis and Epistemological Consequences upon the Economic Theory and Poli cy” (1985); “Integration and Disintegration of the World Economy” (1987); “European Common Market and Yugoslavia” (1988), etc.

Academician Adamović left an impressive record as one of the most distinguished professors and theoreticians in Yugoslav Economics, marked by extraordinary work, dignity, and integrity. We will remember him forever as our sincere friend who possessed the best human virtues.

The funeral will take place on Tuesday, December 9th, 2025, at 2 PM, at the Novo Groblje in Belgrade.
