President of the School Council is Prof. Dr. Slavica Đukić Dejanović, Minister of Education in the Government of the Republic of Serbia and Professor of the ECPD UN University for Peace, Director of the School is Prof. Dr. Zoran Zoričić, Head of the Reference Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia for Addictions, Director of the Clinic for Alcoholism and Other Addictions of KBC "Sestre Milosrdnice", Zagreb and President of the Croatian Society for Addiction, and Co-director is Prof. Dr. Petar Nastasić, Professor of the ECPD UN University for Peace.
The traditional professional approach to addictions from the aspects of prevention, diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation is justified by the interest of the participants, the variety of thematic approaches and, above all, multidisciplinarity. The leading topic of this year's program refers to "Addictive diseases and violence - the role of family and society", i.e. the phenomenon of addiction and aggression, based on the fact that these significant public health and social problems continue to represent one of the leading professional challenges for health professionals, educators, social workers and other professions.
The leading topic is supported by the fact that social policies and social trends of all modern countries foster a tendency towards zero tolerance for violence and in their strategic documents pay special attention to procedures and activities in the field of addiction prevention, since of the many negative outcomes of substance abuse and addiction, violence certainly represents one of those that have significant consequences for families, communities and society as a whole. It should be borne in mind that without psychological, social and spiritual progress of the personality, there is no stable abstinence, as well as harmonious relationships within the family and society, and the overall development of the personality also implies mastering the individual's own aggressiveness, and contributes to more harmonious social relations.
The goal of this year's School is, in accordance with the above, a modern explanation of the biopsychosociological context of addiction, an understanding of the dynamics of relationships within the family, i.e. the cause-and-effect connection between the phenomena of addiction and aggression, the contribution of the so-called new addictions (behavioral) to peer and family violence, motivational interviewing techniques, as well as individual and group therapy. In addition to the education of addiction experts for working with aggression through lectures, training workshops and examples of good practice, the goal of the School is to further motivate addiction experts, as well as other paramedical experts, to work in this area through education on psychotherapeutic and sociotherapeutic interventions, which would, through the strengthening of professional competences, make them more resistant to the problem of burnout in working with individuals and families in the problem of both addiction as well as peer and family violence.
In summary, attention will be focused on presenting and increasing the visibility of peer and family violence in connection with addictions, as well as recommendations for better outcomes and adequate responses to this issue. We intend to implement the planned topic through lectures, training workshops, exchange of experience and examples of good practice. Addictions and aggression are accessed through a multidisciplinary approach, and experts of various profiles will be engaged in the school, including doctors, social pedagogues, sociologists, psychologists and other helping professions.
