Mrs. Slobodanka Sloba Stefanovic

Dear friends, colleagues, associates and members of ECPD,

I have to inform you with profound sorrow that our dear longstanding associate Mrs. Slobodanka Sloba Stefanovic suddenly passed away while working on her desk, last evening, June 5, 2013.

Mrs. Stefanovic was working until the last moment devotedly and highly professionally. We will always remember her warm, nice and patient approach in the relationships with all colleagues and associates. We have lost an exceptional person and irreplaceable collaborator.

A funeral will take place on Saturday, June 8, at 12:30 pm at the Chapel No 1 at the New Cemetery of Belgrade

Intensification of Economic, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation of Japan with Balkan Countries

European Center for Peace and Development University for Peace established by the United Nations is organizing, within activities planned in the scope of the international education and research project “Balkan in the 21st Century – Paths of Building Peace and Stability in the Balkans“, international Round Table “Intensification of Economic, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation of Japan with Balkan Countries” in its premises in Belgrade on 16 April 2013, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

COOPERATION OF THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND UNIVERSITY FOR PEACE ESTABLISHED BY THE UNITED NATIONS

Minister of Health of Serbia, Prof. Dr. Slavica Đukić Dejanović and H.E. Takehiro Togo, President of the Academic Council of the European Centre for Peace University for Peace established by the United Nations signed today Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Healthcare in the Palace “Serbia“:

“The Agreement is signed with the aim to improve cooperation in the field of education in the health system of Serbia, as well as to raise awareness of citizens and knowledge in the area of screening, cardiovascular and other mass diseases“, said Minister of Health.

ECPD Delegation Visit to Prishtina

Today, on 15 April, from 10 to 11 AM, a delegation of the European Center for Peace and Development University for Peace established by the United Nations visited the Constitutional Court of Kosovo where they discussed, with President of the Constitutional Court, Prof. Dr. Enver Hasani and Vice Presidents of the Constitutional Court, Prof. Dr. Kadri Kryeziu and Prof. Dr. Ivan Čukalović, various forms of cooperation, especially in the field of capacity building and training of professionals who will participate in the ECPD programmes The European Union, Integration, EU Law and International Law. The ECPD delegation consisted of H.E. Prof. Dr. Takehiro Togo, President of the ECPD Academic Council, H.E. Prof. Dr. Albert Maes, President of the ECPD Executive Board, Prof. Dr. Jonathan Bradley, Vice President of the ECPD Academic Council and Prof. Dr. Tauno Kekale, Member of the Academic Council.

ECPD Delegation Visit to the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts

Today, on 15 April, at 2 PM, a delegation of the European Center for Peace and Development University for Peace established by the United Nations visited the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts and discussed with President of the Academy, Academician Vlado Kambovski, Vice President Ljupčo Kocarev and Academicians Goce Petreski, Milan Đurčinov, Momir Polenaković and Taki Fiti various forms and modalities of cooperation in the implementation of education and research projects which are of priority importance for development of Macedonia and the neighbouring regions.

ECPD Delegation Visit to the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Macedonia

Today, on 15 April, from 7 PM to 8 PM, a delegation of the European Center for Peace and Development University for Peace established by the United Nations visited Minister of Education of the Republic of Macedonia Mr. Pance Kralev. The ECPD delegation consisted of H.E. Prof. Dr. Takehiro Togo, President of the ECPD Academic Council, H.E. Prof. Dr. Albert Maes, President of the ECPD Executive Board, Prof. Dr. Jonathan Bradley, Vice President of the ECPD Academic Council and Prof. Dr. Tauno Kekale, Member of the Academic Council.

The ECPD members stressed in the discussions with the Minister importance of strengthening cooperation in the implementation of itnernational postgraduate studies organised by ECPD throughout Europe which are of special priority for the Republic of Macedonia on the road towards accession to the EU.

Graduation Ceremony

Today, on 14 April, in the assembly hall of the European Center for Peace and Development University for Peace established by the United Nations, a graduation ceremony for the new masters of sciences was organised, in the presence of the members of the ECPD Academic Council and of the Educational and Scientific Board. The graduates were handed their diplomas by H.E. Prof. Dr. Takehiro Togo, President of the ECPD Academic Council, H.E. Prof. Dr. Albert Maes, President of the ECPD Executive Board and Academician Branislav Šoškić, President of the ECPD Educational and Scientific Board.

BREAKING NEWS

Today, 12 April 2013, at the Palace „Serbia“, Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Healthcare, was concluded between the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia and the European Center for Peace and Development (ECPD) University for Peace established by the United Nations from the UN academic system, headquartered in Belgrade.

The Agreement was signed by Prof. Dr. Slavica Đukić Dejanović, Minister of Health and H.E. Prof. Dr. Takehiro Togo, President of the ECPD Academic Council in the presence of Assistant Professor Dr. Simo Vuković, State Secretary and a group of associates from the Ministry of Health, H.E. Prof. Dr. Albert Maes, President of the ECPD Executive Board, Prof. Dr. Negoslav P. Ostojić, ECPD Executive Director, Prof. Dr. Jeffrey Levett, Member of the ECPD Academic Council and others.

H.E. Yasushi Akashi, a distinguished Japanese and a well-known diplomat, in his capacity as the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for the former Yugoslavia, had a rare opportunity to observe at first hand the events in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia and directly or indirectly influenced them. Mr. Akashi was in this position from January 1994 until the end of September 1995, in the times of the fiercest fighting in the battlefields.

Yasushi Akashi directly reported to the United Nations Secretary-General, and was responsible for the UN Protection Force (UNPROFOR). His duty was to secure, through the UNPROFOR, delivery of the humanitarian aid into jeopardized areas and to ensure observance of ceasefire agreements. The Secretary-General delegated to him authority to ask for NATO air arracks against hostile forces if they were breaking ceasefire agreements or did not comply with the UN Security Council resolutions.
